Eating Out in JB (as recommended by Dr Nasseri)

On my last trip back to JB, my father took Zeehan and I out on a nostalgia drive. It's a nostalgia drive, because for the umpteenth time, he announced his retirement, and we were driving to his favourite makan place.

It's a little gerai at the carpark of Courts Mammoth on Jalan Datin Halimah in JB (I think that's the name of the road, but you can't miss it, it's one of the first ones in town).

Early in the morning, the stall was already bursting with food. The choice of staple was extensive enough - there was nasi lemak, plain white rice, lontong, fried rice and roti canai. The choice of dishes available was impressive and diverse, the kind that only moms can offer.

Fried rice with sambal goreng, tempe, chicken liver, mussels...

I went for fried rice with a bit of this and that. My father pointed out the plates of the other patrons - roti canai heaped with tempe fried with chilli paste (the tempe is nothing like what you get in KL, it's fresh and crispy - no mouldy aftertaste!), sambal goreng, hati ayam, sweet and sour mussels ... ok, stopping now, nanti terliur pulak.

Mussels! I miss them cooked JB style. BTW, I've resisted temptation to go to the MakanSakan site.. for obvious reasons!
