Teething Problems

I became one of those people who were cranky all the time. My wisdom tooth problem escalated to the point that it has become a professional issue (me snapping in meetings is a professional issue), and although steps have been taken to remedy the situation, these steps take time.

My appointment was scheduled this afternoon at 2.30. I gave everyone at work ample warning that they wouldn't see me for a couple of days. I made copies of essential files and backed up things I may need onto my notebook, just in case anyone needed anything from me during my 'leave of absence'. Trust me, something always comes up when you don't have your notebook with you.

I then proceeded to stuff my face over lunch, thinking that this will be my last *real* meal for a while.

Lunch was bland - from the asam laksa to the air laici. I don't think it was my teething problem either. The soup was dilluted and the lychee was stale. Sigh. So much for my last meal...

Noreen enlightened me with an interesting piece of trivia about Hitler - that he suffered from chronic toothache all his life. I wonder what depths I would sink to if I didn't go through with this extraction. (Note to self: Add this to the list of reasons why I shouldn't chicken out, after "3. Lose weight due to liquid diet.")

I realised that talking to people about it (and I've been talking about my tooth for the last couple of weeks!) calmed me down. I concentrated on other things (like how carefree my life would be without this extra tooth!) instead of the impending pain or the inevitable liquid diet. So off I went (happily) to the Dentist.

Unfortunately, today is not the day. Apparently they can't cut my gums when it's swollen. So I'm now on a regiment of antibiotics for a week, which means Najah goes under the Dentist's knife next Thursday. In the meanwhile, I have supplies of painkillers to keep me happy.

Your wisdom tooth is giving you a hard time?

*Pfftt*

That's nothin', man, that's just a strawberry cake.

Wait till you get into child labor.

Use your last few days to find reason/lies for extra Valium. At least that's what they use up here - it's very good.

Erm... one word of advice: in matters of orthodontia, ignorance is bliss. Don't let your doc explain the procedure. Just get in there, get it extracted and get out! :)
