Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend

It's pictures like this that'll give me heart attacks...
[This is in honour of Lin who will be tying the knot soon. Picture courtesy of Tiffany's]

The hardest known substance on earth is also the one thing that can almost always guarantee a smile from a woman. It's also one that at some point in a man's life, gives him nightmares.

Evaluating diamonds is serious business. So is diamond cutting. The right cut will bring out the true brilliance of the rock. I remember watching a documentary about a 12-karat rock and the meticulous effort that the master cutter went through to make sure he doesn't screw up something that big.

*Gasp* I can't continue. This ring looks... *Gasp*

{Getting woozy, I can almost taste the nasi goreng daging merah I had for dinner coming back up...}

But then again, I'm more of this type of girl.

Mmm. Nice rock.

Lucky Lin.

yes, nothing says "i love you" better than a piece of rock made up of concentrated carbon on an intricately crafted piece of metal in the shape of a ring that costs two (maybe three) months of one's salary. *scuttles away wage slaving* :P

Clarification: This is not Lene's rock, yet. It is merely an illustration.

Anyway, what do you guys look for in a rock?

Posted by: Najah at 2004年02月11日 22:02

If it's Tiffany's it'll be at least 5-6 months of mine :)

Honestly Najah, it changes. No guy (at least none I know) are ever sure about what kind of rock they're looking for. Some play it safe and bring along the recipient to choose. Others drag siblings/cousins/friends. Yet others just "bantai" hoping it'll be a hit. And then there are the ones who actually study rocks and rings.

Apparently there's a rock for everyone. It'll strike you when you see it. This is of course, hearsay.

I have some plans regarding my choice, but it's still along way away. I have an eerie feeling it'll be very expensive.

Gah.

i remember that friends episode when chandler went to get his ring for monica.. then went on to lose it away to another buyer..

does the 'feel' thing work? i guess it's just like the way you first 'feel' that way for her.

ash.ox nailed it right in the head - "It'll strike you when you see it."

heh! just so long as the woman is not asking for debeers diamonds! that's gonna set anyone back like another couple of months' pay! :P

Pickyin: The only problem is, some guys get struck too easily, LoL (this usually last minute panicking).

DJ: deBeers? That's it. I'm off to work on NorthSea oil platforms. That way I should be able to afford one..or half.

wat an awesome rock. i don't know how to see the quality of diamonds, but i guess deep down inside, every girl hopes to own one, big or small. debeers, carat club -- 6 months pay just to own one small rock from them. watudoo, makan loti lor.

Posted by: oliviasy at 2004年02月12日 10:02

oliviasy: makan roti? in ash.ox's and my case, it'll literally be "makan angin" lorr...

I'm lucky coz my gf is alergic to gold, silver and leather. Not sure about diamond though? but I'm sure diamond does go with plastic rite!

Size does not matter. I'd prefer to have a small but good quality diamond than a huge one that is not.

Gollum! Gollum!

Posted by: KaZ at 2004年02月12日 12:31

waaah! Mr Ting Tong, you're really lucky ;P Although as far as I know the diamond thing is kinda compulsory, allergies or not!

DJ: right on. Makan angin, and once in awhile, mamak!

Kaz: I see you're in love with the preciousssss..

Posted by: Ash.ox at 2004年02月12日 12:51

I'd feel very nervous wearing a rock of that size! I'd go for something simple (rock-less band, ok maybe sprinked with some star dust) for a wedding ring.

Posted by: belina at 2004年02月12日 16:26

najah, can guys wear diamonds. what do you think of guys who wear diamonds?

Posted by: cimabue at 2004年02月12日 16:38

ash.ox - mamak would be luxury already in that case.

cimabue - guys and diamonds? too much "ice" over them "bling blings", nahmsayin'? ;)

Knock knock. Is this the School of Rock?

Hi. Can't help to agree with you. Was in Cape Town, South Africa last year and almost bought one for myself! I tell you, that place is a haven for diamonds, and other kinds of rocks too.
