My name is Najah, and I'm an IKEA addict...

A declaration which is followed by a bellowing "Hi Najah..." heard around the world...

Last weekend was perhaps the umpteeth time I went to Ikea this year. This time, I brought new blood and her mom.

It's funny that each Ikea trip is accompanied by nice blue skies and rolling hills - the ones you see from the highway, invoking a feeling of childhood excitement, like the first time you go to Disneyland or something.

"Look, you can see the logo!"

"Wow, the carpark is so nice!"

I walked in telling myself that I'm just getting some storage boxes and the meatballs. I ended up with more than just storage boxes, and stuffed myself twice - once at the restaurant (meatballs, sausage, salmon - to share, of course), and once at the cafe (oh the tart!).

New blood marvelled at the amazing world that unfolded before us. The showrooms were ripe with ideas, like how to fit little boxes in teeny tiny drawers, and contraptions that unfold into whole livingrooms. Rocket scientists, she declared that the furniture designers must have been rocket scientists. She and her mom are hooked!

Unfortunately, there's no known treatment.

The Non-Expert on Ikea:

Question: Hey Nonexpert, my girlfriend drags me to IKEA almost every weekend and it’s driving me crazy. What should I tell her? –Brent Flagg

Answer: There is no known treatment for IKEA addiction. The best you can do is learn to survive.

Survival Guide here.

Najah,

Because of you, I too am an Ikea addict. My mother is already saving her next pay check to re-do the living room. However, she refuses to spend much more time with us at IKEA for fear that she will gain weight, after watching us walk, eat, walk, eat, walk, eat. Rinse, repeat.

Sincerely,
New Blood.

PS-The potted plant looks very good on the little lime green stool.

I spent quite some moolah on two bookcases from Ikea. Furnitures aside, there are the cookies from their Swedish specialty shop, and those hot curry puffs (complete with hard-boiled egg inside).

Amazing isn't it, that here it's almost a luxury item, when students in the UK are buying Billys for a fraction of the price.

Gaaah! I want my Billys!

(Rushes off to blow off imminent IKEA addiction attack)

Those are the bookcases I got.. Billys!!! They cost a bomb, I pray they can last for 10 more years at least...

You peeps should know that IKEA products aren't made to last... it's a tad on the affordable side (well, compared to other brands lar... not comparing with Kedai Perabot Ah Beng)...

Their concept is not really about long lasting furnitures, but rather furnitures that will last long enough and with funky enough designs to last until the next makeover of your room/home... so I'd say give it 2-3 years max... :)

my Billys have been around for 5 years.. going to get one more since my room currently looks like a mini library.. hope they last *fingers crossed*.. :)

Me too an IKEA addict. Too bad I work & stay in the East Coast so basically hafta drag my hubby there everytime I'm in KL (read: twice a month) and I'd end up with more than 5 items per visit (inclusive of meatballs and salmon added to my weight!)

I've been going just for lunch and skip seeing any actual furniture/items!
