Sometimes, things seem beyond your control. Your head gets into this spiral of thoughts - what if I did this, or what if I did that. You realise that you can no longer do anything about things that have already happened - yet you wonder if the future will be any different. You find it difficult to wake up in the morning, because you fear that the day will bring you into the same cycle, over and over again. You fear that you have no choice in how your life pans out, and you would rather sleep instead of live the day.
Most of us grow up by going through a period of irreverence and immortality. We guide our paths through a series of small decisions, all based on impulse and short-sighted wisdom (or lack of). The combination is potent - it leads us to another place so far away from our childhood ideals that we wonder how we got there in the first place.
Some argue that there's no use looking back. Tracing back those steps can't change things in the present. But taking that retrospective walk may uncover the reasons behind how those small steps lead to that collossal crisis. Maybe then we begin to see what not to do.
We just have to take care to tread lightly.

Posted by: jemi at 2003年11月05日 10:01aslmkm. hi najah. just some hadiths i remembered that can be useful in your current predicament:
1. "A strong believer is better and more loved by God Almighty than a weak believer, although both bear goodness. Thus, seek eagerly what benefits you the most and seek God's help. Do not show weakness in your struggle and if something bad happens to you, do not say "if I had done so and so, then such and such would not have happened", but say "it was my destiny and God has allowed what He wished" , because the word 'if' in this context would open the door for Satan to work on you." (Muslim)
2. "If Allah loves a people, He tests them. Whoever is pleased and patient, for him is pleasure, and whoever is angry, for him is wrath."
3. "The most harshly tested people are the Prophets, followed in succession by who is best after them. A man is tested according to
his religion. If his religion is strong with him, his test will be more intense. If his religion is weak with him, he will be tested
according to the level of his religion. (Allah's) slave will
continually be tested until he is left to walk on the earth without a mistake (to have to account for)."
4. "Wonderful is the situation of the believer. All of his affairs are good (for him)! And this is only for the believer. If good befalls
him, he is thankful, and that is good for him. If harm afflicts him, he is patient, and that is good for him."
and finally on 'treading lightly' :
5. Umar(ra) asked Ubayy bin K’aab(ra) about the true significance of what Taqwa is. Ubayy said, "Commander of the faithful! Have you ever had a chance to pass by a path surrounded by a thorny bush?" Umar replied that he had done so many times.
Ubayy then asked what he did when going along the path. Umar said he tucked up his clothes and walked carefully along that path, so that none of his clothes would be caught in the thorns. Ubayy (ra) then said, "That is Taqwa".
selamat berpuasa.
Posted by: faren at 2003年11月05日 11:48being held (or haunted) by past memories and time wasted on thinking about why and what if are some stuffs that i really can't understand. we may know that there's no such thing of undo button in real life but we still tend to believe in our own fairy tales and miracles... and they runs inside our veins forever. now thats the beauty of life!
Posted by: believe at 2003年11月05日 12:34To fear to live is a crime greater in the end than living and making mistakes. There's no such thing as a perfect life, try naming me one - as one great Sage puts it wisely ---Life is like a box of chocalates, you never know what you're gonna get...:)
Posted by: speed at 2003年11月05日 18:37Naj, it is true as Faren has pointed out. We must remember not to dwell too much into the past when we decide on the future. Looking at the future and comparing it to the past will only get us only a replica of the present. I agree lessons have to be learnt. it should be only that. The present is what shapes our future, learn from the past, but live for the present because it is the key to our future.
Faith helps clear the thoughts and point the way.
Posted by: Gabriel at 2003年11月05日 21:53a former boss, whom i don't really like to quote, once said, "If you keep on doing the same things, how do you expect to get different results?"
while i agree with gabriel that we must learn from the past and not dwell too much into it but i must add that sometimes we do not dwell enough.
history repeats itself and we humans sometimes are too blinded with the present to learn from our past.
all i can suggest is that to remember and celebrate the past, live your life to the fullest this present, and look forward to the future.
after reading all your lovely and beautifully written posts, i see that you have many friends and you do know how to have fun!
So live life to the max girl!
