And She Jumped Off A Plane...

... like 70 times!

Rosna Rashid

I said this roughly 10 times today, after I met an incredible woman: Rosna Rashid, mother of the infamous Rehman Rashid, at Sarang Murai, her restaurant and residence.

She took us into her home

Thanks to See Ming, who organised 'the lunch of 10' today, Sharizal and I found ourselves in Ulu Langat. For a mere RM35 per person, we were greeted with a wonderful home-cooked traditional Malay meal (petai and tempe was on the menu!), peaceful surroundings (it took me 5 seconds to decide that I'm coming back), and great company.

The meal ended with coffee and conversation.

Auntie Rosna told us tales of her exploits as a journalist for the Asian Defence Journal, her life after the death of her husband and her life after her kids grew up. Her motto, which she continues to embrace as she approaches her 68th birthday, is that you have to try everything at least once, and then do it again (or something along those lines... ).

There was a journalist there, and I won't spoil the surprise by saying anything more... Can't wait to read about the bits I missed (I was too busy having dessert when they started the interview).

And yes, she can fly a plane, on top of having jumped off one at least 70 times!

Wow. Must have been a humbling experience! Scrumptiously humbling, no doubt.

Rehman Rashid rocks, so I'm guessing his mom probably rocks too.

(maybe a little more?)

The next time See Ming and Najah and Sharizal go there again, bring me along or there will be a mutiny.

The last round I was ready, was told Kak Rosna was indisposed. This time, See Ming duly gave me a yell, but I had to do errands for wify and kid.

I won't miss it the 3rd time. Come what may.

Petai - in whatever way, is my lifeline when I am not meeting strangers but among friends. If there is pucuk manis in that yellow gravy... wuuuuuh!

Aunti Rosna jumped 70 times? It takes a special sort to do it, I've only done it 3 times and the experience is definitely something you would remember. Experiences like these have helped me to see things in a different light as well as to appreciate it with a different perspective.

Way to go Auntie Rosna ... explains the great food too. Is she a perfectionist as well?
