Politics and love use promises in much the same way. Woo the voters with promises of a better life, better roads, better government, better moral standards or a better economy. Voters are either swayed by the promiser's eloquence, charms and charisma in verbalising said promises, or not. The promise-originator's track record comes under scrutiny by the constituency - some choose to remember bumps in the road (or potholes and tolls in some council member's cases), others lull themselves into a sense of optimism that this time around, things will be different.
Come election time, politicians smile, laugh, cry, and kiss babies. And they make promises. Once they've secured their seats, promises get lost in the bureaucracy of public life.
"It's too expensive."
"It's too difficult - I couldn't get support."
"You live too far away from my palace."
"I'll do it later... "
The more adept politician may even go as far as forgetting the promise altogether, or asking the poor voter: "Have I met you before?"
Promises are meant to be kept, else what's the point of making them in the first place?
While I don't intend to be a politician, I do have hopes to be a promise-keeper. And with all my imperfections, I guess I would have to be careful with the promises I make.
Side note:
Farewell Oon. Will miss your online presence. Looking forward to your 'come-back with a vengeance'.
No, but perhaps the romeos should be subject to the same terms and conditions as the politicians - an "akujanji" would come in handy... ;)

The stereotype created by medias .Wait for the establishment of Institute of Mahathir's thinking , perhaps a new stereotype will emerge . Pilots have the playboy image . Teachers look good but there are still crooks among them !
In short , we should not generalise things for the negative side instead intense more on the positive image . :) Cheers .
