Observation:
I was staring at my feet this afternoon. I went home at 5, it was a hot day and all my appendages looked swollen from the heat. Fingers, toes and feet. As I looked at my feet today, I noticed that it's wider at the front, more that I thought it used to be.
Background:
I have this thing for heels. I've worn them clunky since university, and now toweringly high and slim. My first heels came from Mak Lah, my aunt, who has roughly the same size feet as mine - although I'm quite sure I've definitely outgrown her by about 1/4".
Other than the vericose veins (which I don't have) and the back problem (which I occasionally have BUT only when I'm stressed), I always wondered what other side effects prolonged use of heels has.
Hypothesis:
Is it possible for the width of my feet to expand disproportionately due to heels?
Note:
I so love those heels...
Interesting question. I am not here to answer wether or not feet expand by wearing high heels. I would rather say I am here more of sharing my experience of not wearing one.
I always admire people effort on puting high heels and adjust their style of walking in order to keep themselves balance. I have tried once, I thought it is quite painful. I do not really against it, it is just that I feel more comfortable with low heels.
Research had shown that wearing high heels potentially can cause more harm to thousands of nerve ends at the bottom of your feet compared to without it. A single person could cover a distance as long as the circumference of the globe in their whole life. (Check the facts with reflexotologist).
Imagine if most the time you spend wearing high heels. Would it be a continous effort of damaging your nerve end? Not to mention about other bad effect which has not yet been proven through research. May be feet expansion is one of them..I dont know. Just a thought.
Posted by: Puteri Nor Shiha at 2003年05月28日 10:29The ancient Chinese used to bind the feet of little girls. Only really small feet are considered attractive in those days, so these girls grew into women with 3 inch lotus shaped feet!! Dainty, no?
Swollen feet from tight, ill fitting shoes, yessss, but I don't know if shoes can actually enlarge your feet. I've read that high heels may cause bad posture, unbalance, back pain...
Maybe your feet are just growing.
Posted by: Noreen at 2003年05月28日 12:12I started wearing stiletto three-inch high heels this year. They're worse than your average high heels, but I adore them.
You can't wear them for very long because they start hurting. You live in fear of breaking the pencil-thin heels. Tottering three inches above your toes is a LOT harder than even a mere two inches. And tottering on pencil-thin heels is always harder than tottering on wide heels.
But I still adore them. I have to say that I can swing my butt easier with stilettos than with wide heels. Also, I get a misguided sense of accomplishment at being able to balance myself on stilettos.
I want more. Right now, I have only two. Anyone wanna go stiletto shoe shopping with me next week?
I've seen Hani wear those heels. I'm conflicted.
There's one side of me that says, “She shouldn't! It hurts her!”.
The other side says, “Hey, nice ass”. She gets very happy when I say that :)

Posted by: najah at 2003年05月29日 09:45On my graduation day, to match the kebaya liku my sister sent me from Malaysia, I wore a two-inches heel. Walking across the stage to recieve my degree was the longest walk I've ever had. I switched back to my loveable Polo black/green sneaker when I got back to my seat. Before we left for lunch celebration, I took some pictures with friends.
Two weeks later, I got a call from my sister. She said, they cracked up when they saw my graduation pictures: Me in a beautiful kebaya liku plus the sneakers on my feet!
