Missing the Dot-com Boom

Ok, so it hit me late, but I really do miss the dot-com boom days. The mad rush, the public interest. Now, all that's left of my profession is stigma, cynicism and the same sense that any tom-dick-and-harry can do the job.

Of course, the good thing about this is that we now have to earn our credibility, but why is it that in these times of digital downturns, only the idiots have survived? What happened to those good guys who introduced me to MPLS and IAM, and carried cool gadgets that gave me too many ideas?

The smart ones rode the wave and sold out.We are still here just doing something else. Just waiting for the next opportunity.

no, the smart ones never really got caught. my work on the internet has predated the dot com boom, and today after the boom, i'm still around working on the same things. the ones that got caught were the ones who thought that they could cash in on the hype, forgetting one critical need: the need to be technologically adept and superior.
